Nuovo ibisco

Dopo l'ibisco rosso, chiamato Maui e cui e' stato dedicato un post qualche tempo fa, ecco che irrompe in casa Sacchibelli un nuovo ibisco, stavolta rosa, battezzato Haleakala.
Ecco in tutto il suo splendore il suo primo fiore.

After Maui, the first red ibisco we posted few weeks ago, now at Sacchibelli's place a new ibiscus arrived. The new one, called Haleakala, is pink, and in the picture you can see its first, beautiful, flower.

Torta di mirtilli e more

Forse stiamo esagerando un po' coi post gastronomici, ma la torta di more e mirtilli preparata da Silvia meritava questa vetrina.
Eccola in tutto il suo splendore. Inutile dire che, oltre che bella, era anche deliziosa.

Probably we are spending to many posts about food or similar. But the cake Silvia made last Sunday has been exceptional; so I have to show you it. Obviously, although today is only Monday, you can't find any trace of the cake at Sacchibelli's house.

Salame di Varzi

Oggi siamo andati a pranzo in quel di Varzi, piccolo e caratteristico paese dell'Oltrepo' Pavese, famoso per il suo ottimo salame crudo.
L'occasione e' stata il compleanno della mia mamma.
Sicuro che apprezzerranno, Sacchibelli posta qui due foto per i numerosi amici che ci seguono dagli States: una vetrina in cui i salami sono appesi a stagionare, e il dettaglio di cio' che il sottoscritto ha mangiato come antipasto...
Certo gli amici americani replicheranno che i cheesburgers buoni come quelli fatti laggiu' qui ce li sognamo, ma tant'e'.....

Today we went to Varzi, a little town in the "Oltrepo' Pavese" region, famous for the "salame crudo". We went there to celebrate with a very good lunch my mother's birthday.
Sacchibelli decided to post here two pictures for our numerous friends that follow the blog from the States. In the first one you can see a lot of aged "salami crudi", and in the second one a detail of what we ate as appetizer.
For sure our american friends will reply that here in Italy we can only dream about their original and wonderful cheeseburgers, however...

Gita in Belgio

I Sacchibelli hanno trascorso qualche giorno di vacanza in Belgio, da giovedi' 10 a lunedi' 14 luglio.
Siamo andati a Gand, dove abbiamo alloggiato presso l'ottimo Bed&Breakfast "Studio INs INN". Da li', oltre a visitare la bellissima Gand stessa, ci siamo spostati a Bruges, Leuven, Anversa, Mechelen e Bruxelles. Se da un lato Bruxelles ha le dimensioni di una grande capitale (pur avendo comunque molti punti decisamente spettacolari), le altre cittadine sono caratterizzate da un centro storico splendidamente conservato e molto compatto.

Tutti gli spostamenti sono stati effettuati tramite gli efficientissimi treni delle ferrovie belga (assolutamente di un altro pianeta se confrontato con il servizio offerto da Trenitalia), e dobbiamo dire che i posti che abbiamo visto sono di una bellezza rara. Tutta la vacanza e' stata positiva e anche il clima tanto temuto, non e' stato inclemente. Diciamo che il tempo e' molto variabile, ma anche se talvolta abbiamo dovuto aprire l'ombrello, abbiamo di sicuro apprezzato i momenti di sole e cielo blu, accompagnati da una temperatura per noi primaverile.

P.S. Sia per quanto riguarda il cioccolato che per la birra, il Belgio non ci ha certo deluso...

Sacchibelli has been to Belgium for few days, since Thursday the 10th through Monday the 14th.
We have been in Gand, where we slept at the lovely "Studio INs INN". Gand is a very nice place where to live, and from there we have been to Bruges, Leuven, Antwerp, Mechelen and Bruxelles. We moved from one place to another one by train, and it was a very nice experience if compared to the services provided by italian "Trenitalia". All the places we visited were very nice and weather too was not too bad. Sometimes it rained, but we had also very nice sunny days. Here you can see some pictures of our trip.
P.S. We can confirm that both chocolate and bier from Belgium are wonderful...

Sembra incredibile ma...

Dopo solo 10 mesi e 24 giorni l'efficientissima amministrazione comunale pavese ha prontamente riaperto il ponticello ciclo-pedonale che passa sul Naviglio all'altezza di viale Campari e viale Necchi.
Dopo che e' stato chiuso perche' dichiarato pericolante lo scorso 12 agosto, dopo ripetute richieste di sollecito, dopo mesi di calma piatta, dopo che la passerella era stata finalmente asportata e dopo che una nuova e' stata collocata nello stesso punto, dopo che per puro miracolo non e' accaduto alcun serio incidente a pedoni e ciclisti costretti a condividere il ponte stradale, da ieri il ponticello ciclo-pedonale e' stato riaperto.
Considerando che si tratta di un ponticello lungo poco piu' di dieci metri e largo poco piu' di uno, considerando che il suo impatto scenico non e' proprio quello del Golden Gate, considerando pure tutte le attenuanti, ritengo che sia vergognoso che sia servito cosi' tanto tempo per riavere il ponticello funzionante....

Yesterday, after about 10 months and 24 days the pedestrian bridge over the "Naviglio", close to the intersection between "viale Campari" and "viale Necchi" has been open again. If you consider that the access ramp to the bay bridge, at Oackland, has been substituted in 3 days, and if you consider that the local bridge is only 10 m long and 1 m wide, you can deduce how efficient the Pavia public administration is, compared to the one of San Francisco/Auckland....
However now we can safely walk and ride over the small bridge, and we feel a little bit safer than before, when we had to share, with the cars, the road bridge.

Mexican food

Dopo gli ottimi esperimenti di cibo giapponese di cui anche Emiko sarebbe entusiasta, questo week-end Silvia si e' esibita in un pranzettino messicaneggiante. Cosi', usando le piadine a mo' di tortilla e preprando dell'ottimo pollo con peperoni, a casa sacchibelli si respirava un po' di atmosfera messicana. Non poteva mancare ovviamente la guacamole (ancora perfettibile) e pure i nachos con formaggio e peperoni.
Tutto molto gustoso...

After japanese food experiments, this week Silvia tried something different, but always exotic. The main dish was chicken with peppers (not jalapeno, unfortunately), and we used piadina as tortilla. Obviously there was also guacamole (not bad, but some improvement is expected) and the famous nachos with cheese and peppers. Good job Silvia, the lunch was pretty exciting.

Caffe' shakerato

Domenica scorsa abbiamo assaggiato un ottimo caffè shakerato, ideale refrigerio per la calura estiva. Così abbiamo deciso di dotarci di shaker (grazie Luisa per il regalo), e nel week-end ci siamo esibiti nei primi tentativi di "shakeraggio". La tecnica può essere forse migliorata, ma direi che siamo sulla buona strada.

Last sunday we tried a very nice "caffè-shakerato", a very good solution to drink something cold but energetic during the hot summer at Pavia. And now, thanks to Luisa, we have a shaker at sacchibelli house. This week-end we made the first experiments. Although the technique can still be improved, first results look good.

Al Gore sarebbe contento

Venerdì siamo stati all'Ikea e, all'uscita, siamo stati omaggiati di un kit composto da 3 lampadine a risparmio energetico e 3 frangiflusso per rubinetti. Una bella iniziativa di Enel per sensibilizzare al risparmio energetico e al buon uso di beni primari come l'acqua. Con questi semplici accorgimenti e' infatti possibile limitare sia il consumo di energia elettrica che quello dell'acqua corrente. Un investimento minimo, se non nullo, per il bene del pianeta e di tutti noi che sopra dobbiamo viverci.

Last friday we went at Ikea (yes, we love it), and, when we were close to the exit, we have seen that ENEL was promoting the use of "low energy" bulbs and some "strange" tap-device able to save water up to 40%. We really appreciated this idea and now sacchibelli house is saving both energy and water.
