Sacchibelli's flowers

Come gia' sottolineato nei post precedenti, ormai la primavera è arrivata anche qui. E anche se quest'ultimo è stato un weekend poco soleggiato e molto piovoso, i fiori di casa Sacchibelli non se ne preoccuopano, e diventano giorno dopo giorno sempre piu' belli. In attesa della famosa fioritura dei tulipani (prevista a breve) la sorpresa è stata la fioritura di una delle nostre orchidee. Era da parecchio infatti che, vuoi per il clima, vuoi per la difficoltà, le nostre orchidee non fiorivano. E invece ecco che la nostra phalenopsys, dopo un lungo letargo, ci saluta con un fiore meraviglioso. Le primule ovviamente non sono da meno, bellissime, anche se meno esotiche.

In last posts we already highlighted our happiness for the coming spring time. So, although this weekend weather was bad, flowers at Sacchibelli's place don't care too much about this recent rain, and they become nicer and nicer. Tulips are not ready yet, but the surprise comes from our orchids. After more than one year our Phalenopsys surprised us with a beautiful flower. Primroses too look wonderful, although less exotic than orchids.

Ciao ciao inverno...

Da ieri l'inverno e' ufficialmente finito e siamo entrati in primavera. E il weekend ci ha accolto con un magnifico sole quasi californiano. Le prime gemme e i primi fiori hanno fatto capolino, cosi' i sacchibelli, per festeggiare il cambio di stagione, hanno deciso di estrarre la mitica gelatiera e hanno cominciato a produrre i primi gelati del 2009. Inoltre, da quest'anno, il celebre gelato viene servito accompagnato con ottime cialde artigianali.
La foto probabilmente rende l'idea, ma per chi non ha ancora potuto gustarlo, garantisco che la qualita' e' sempre ottima.

Yesterday it was the first spring time day. Winter time is gone and the weekend was full of sun. Moreover we are seeing the first flowers around (our tulips are coming soon...) and all these things make us quite happy. To celebrate spring time we decided to start with the self made "ice cream" season; you can see in the picture that this year our ice cream comes with "artisan" waffle, and I can guarantee that it is good as usual... I hope you will have a chance to taste it...

Taverna Santorini

Ieri si era in giro per la citta' intorno all'ora di pranzo, con poca voglia di mettersi ai fornelli. Cosi' ne abbiamo approfittato per tornare, dopo tanto tempo, alla "Taverna Santorini", il ristorante greco di Pavia.
Dopo qualche interessante stuzzichino i piatti forti sono stati il bifteki, scelto da Silvia, e il suvlaki, scelto dal sottoscritto. Non c'e' che dire, sapori e aromi particolari, e molto graditi.

Yesterday we were around the center of the city, at lunch time, and to avoid to come back home to cook something, we decided to come back to "Taverna Santorini" the greek restaurant we have here in Pavia. Silvia ordered some bifteki, together with tomatoes and olives, while I decided for a suvlaky, always with tomatoes and olives.
We like this place a lot, and yesterday too we were quite satisfied. Good food at a reasonable price.

Sacchibelli Boulangerie

Il recente weekend parigino è ancora nei nostri cuori, cosi' stamattina, per ricordare quei momenti (e anche per far sgobbare l'ottimo robot Kenwood) ci siamo impegnati nella preparazione di un pane speciale. Certo, le baguettes parigine sono inarrivabili, ma vi è da dire che le due pagnotte a base di formaggio grana e prosciutto cotto che vedete nella foto sono risultate piuttosto gustose.
Per una volta quindi abbiamo lasciato a riposo la nostra (per altro validissima) macchina del pane Princess e anziche' il pane a cassetta, ecco due splendide pagnotte dorate e croccanti.

The weekend we spent in Paris was wonderful. And among many nice things we always have in our hearts after that travel, to remember the extremely high quality of french bread (in particular baguettes) is always nice. So this morning we tried to make our own bread, not using our Princess bread maker but following a nice recipe we found in the "Kenwood book". So, using our kitchen robot Kenwood, we made these two very good loaves, with ham and "Parmesan cheese" inside. Something special... believe to us.

Something strange

La premessa è che ognuno è libero di spendere i propri soldi come diavolo preferisce e che "de gustibus non disputandum est"; tuttavia, guardando fuori dalla finestra l'altra sera, qualche dubbio ci è sorto. E' vero, i SUV sono di moda, e poi danno maggior sicurezza. Ma il transatlantico parcheggiato sotto casa risultava un po' fuori luogo. In parte perche' non stiamo negli States e le strade pavesi non sono poi cosi' spaziose, ma anche dimenticandosi di questo dettaglio, noi si fatica a capire il significato di un'automobile (?!?!) come quella qui fotografata. Non sappiamo di che marca sia ma il confronto con la Fiat Bravo parcheggiata vicino dimostra che è lunga 7.35 m. Sara' pure Euro 4 o Euro 5, ma riesce difficile immaginare che un marchingegno del genere inquini come un auto normale. E poi magari si scopre che è omologata per 4 persone, mentre la nostra scattante Peugeot 206 (lunghezza 3.84 m), porta quasi comodamente cinque persone.

Last night looking from our windows we have seen a strange car parked close to our place. It is a "mysterious" SUV whose estimated length is about 7.35 m. For sure, everyone is free to spend his money as he prefers, but to drive such a car (?!?!?) through the narrow streets we have here around is probably not so easy. Our car length is only 3.84m, and to us it looks big enough....

American Breakfast

Oggi è stata una splendida domenica soleggiata; la primavera è ormai alle porte e, per almeno pochi mesi, possiamo godere anche qui di un clima quasi californiano... Ispirata probabilmente da queste considerazioni, la componente Belli di Sacchibelli stamattina si è esibita nella preparazione di una straordinaria colazione piu' americana che continentale (la componente Sacchi poltriva, nel frattempo). Il pezzo forte e' stato ovviamente l'ottimo pancake, che abbiamo arricchito con frutti di bosco e con ottima marmellata. Direi che il risveglio, allietato dal sole e dalla sorpresa dei pancake e' stato decisamente piacevole...

Today it has been a wonderful sunny Sunday. Spring time is now very close and, at least for few months, we can enjoy a "californian style" weather. Probably for this reason, the Belli component of Sacchibelli this morning was very active and, while the Sacchi component was still sleaping, she prepared a very good american style breakfast. To find lovely hand-made pancake (to be filled with fruit salad, jam or nutella) was a very nice surprise for me, and we enjoyed it a lot.

A long weekend in Paris

Il silenzio di questi giorni e' dovuto al fatto che i Sacchibelli si sono concessi un lungo weekend, da venerdi' a lunedi' a Parigi, la ville lumiere...
Che dire, Parigi ci ha accolto con la sua eleganza, la magnificenza dei suoi monumenti, la sua classe e ci ha anche regalato 4 giorni senza pioggia (due addirittura col sole).
Certo in quattro giorni non si puo' vedere tutto, cosi' abbiamo dovuto rinunciare al Louvre, a Versailles, alla Defense. Ma quello che siamo riusciti a vedere ci ha davvero entusiasmato. Dall'inevitabile Tour Eiffel al Trocadero, dall'Hotel des Invalides a Montmartre, dai bellissimi parchi al Museo D'Orsay. E poi camminare tra i vicoli del Marais o immergersi nelle incantevoli Place Dauphine o Place des Vosges.
Insomma, un weekend stupendo e tutto sommato low cost, considerando che abbiamo volato RyanAir (da Orio al Serio a Paris Beauvais), che abbiamo alloggiato all'Hotel de la Loire, un alberghetto a Montparnasse senza troppe pretese ma pulito ed economico (e facilmente raggiungibile col Metro'), e che anche per il cibo ci siamo deliziati con i mitici prodotti di boulangerie e patisserie.....

The reason why we didn't update our blog last weekend was because we spent a very nice long weekend in Paris, the "ville lumiere".
Everything was amazing: Paris is a very elegant city, full of history, nice churches and wonderful buildings. Moreover we were very lucky because we never had rainy days and on Saturday and Monday we had a wonderful sun.
In few days you can't visit everything, so we decide to skip the Louvre, for example, and Versaille. A good reason to come back soon. However we have seen a lot of nice things. The "obvious" tour Eiffel and the Trocadero; then we went to the "Hotel des Invalides" and we walked trough up to Montmartre; we also visited the exciting "Musee d'Orsay". And then we spent time walking through the Marais, or through the beautiful squares, like "Place des Vosges" and "Place Dauphine", inside the "Ile de la cite'".
We can't mention all the places we visited, but this long weekend was great. And cheap too. In fact we flew with Ryanair from "Orio al Serio" to Paris Beauvais, we reserved a cheap (and good enough) room at Hotel de la Loire in Montparnasse and, at least for lunch, we enjoyed the marvelous bread and "gateaux" of French boulangerie and patisserie.
